A modern interpretation of the traditional Japanese chabudai, exuding elegance in any room it graces.
Brief
Participants were tasked with using Autodesk to design an object of their choice, demonstrating their skills and design abilities in this project.
concept
For this design, I wanted to create a modern look for a traditional Japanese chabudai using traditional Japanese joinery to create a setting that can be used for any occasion.
rationale
The table consists of three main components: the base, centre island, and tabletop, which are held together by four cylinders inserted just below the tabletop.
I incorporated traditional Japanese joinery into this chabudai to facilitate assembly and disassembly and facilitate transportation between locations. The four cylinders positioned just beneath the tabletop conceal the Japanese joinery from the viewer.
